Karan Johar's MNIK inspired me greatly in writing this blog. It's not that the movie was a Flawless-Deserves-No-Less-Than-Oscar kind of but it's that the issue raised in it is very significant for today's India and as soon as I walked out of the threatre the first thought that crossed my mind was that the country needs more Rizwan Khan's for it to become what I have always wanted it to be...THE INDIA OF MY DREAMS...and believe you me it's not far away(YA that's as Cliched as it can get, but I mean every word of it)
IT'S NOT FAR AWAY....
To start with let me state a very basic and extreme fact "God created us as ONE and we divided ourselves into differnt communities". Its basic because its basic as I'm sure all of you have heard it before but its extreme beacuse it's too Hyper-Real, though it is the best thing that could ever happen to man-kind but as of now "ONE RELEGION-HUMANITY" seems too good to be real. Now what...should we keep carrying on this hatred for each other on the basis of which path to God one choses and I know for sure that if I put up this question to my Grand-parents or someone-else of their age who has been through the parttion of India and Pakistan or has lost someone near and dear in the many Hindu-Muslim riots that have taken place in the past across India, most of them would surely reply "You havent seen the Massacre that occured during that time and how the people of our community were slaughterd and thats why you are coming up with such vague questions"....ok but the same happened to the people of the other community and since then havent you marched on with time in all the walks of life but 1...you abandoned the Purdah system that you once adored, accepted the British clothes and many other goods that you once bycotted...then why have you carried this contagious HATE VIRUS in you which is now hindering the growth of your own country. How can India even think of resolving matters with its once-part-now-neighbour when people within its own geographical boundaries are finding reasons to pull down each other.
On a more positive note WE as Indians have come a long way eversince we started as a Republic in 1947 and especially in the last 10 years because if you notice that till the 1999 there was a major Hindu-Muslim riot almost every 5 years but the reducing communal tension is an indicator of the improving conditions. Apparently the Indians and specially the Indian youth has now started to understand the meaning of the word 'SECULAR' which is there in India's preamble to constitution.
Though much has been done but still long road beckons us and that's why i say that we need more Rizwan Khan's today who make us realize how much hate we have for each other, who teach us the meaning of love for each other and who make us realize that United we stand and divided we fall...To sum it up here's my fav line from a MNIK song "Zakhmi dilo ko hai pyas teri, Khali akhen khud se sawal kare aman ke cheekh behaal kare...behta lahu fariyad kare...NOOR-E-KHUDA"
